3. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS
3.1 Certification. The contractor shall certify and maintain substantiating evidence that the product offered meets the salient characteristics of the Commercial Item Description, and that the product conforms to the producer’s own drawings, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices. The government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract.
3.2 Quality conformance inspection. Unless otherwise specified, sampling for inspection shall be performed in accordance with MIL-STD-1916.
3.3 Visual examination. Each lot of fiber rope assemblies shall be inspected in accordance with MIL-STD-1916, inspection level II. The assemblies shall be examined for consumer type defects, as follows:
End cut, chafing, or damaged; broken or loose end or strand; unevenly brailed resulting in open place, break in continuity of braid, or soft spot; finish other than specified; color other than specified; not put-up as specified.
The lot size shall be expressed in units of blocks (winders), and the sample unit shall be block (winder). The inspection level shall be II.
3.4 Dimensional examination. The finished cord shall be measured for the dimensions specified in table I. The lot size shall be expressed in units of blocks (winders), and the sample unit shall be one block (winder). The inspection level shall be S-3.
4. PACKAGING
4.1 Packaging. Forty-eight blocks (winders) of cord shall be unit packed in a snug fitting fiberboard box conforming to style RSC, type CF, class domestic, grade 275 of PPP-B-636 the approximate inside dimensions of the box shall be 14-1/2 inches in length, 9-1/2 inches width and 7-1/2 inches in depth. Approximate dimensions shall be furnished as a guide only.
4.2 Packing. One hundred ninety-two blocks (winders) of cord, unit packed as specified, shall be packed in a snug fitting RSC style corrugated fiberboard shipping container. The approximate inside dimensions of the shipping container shall be 19 inches in length, 15 inches in width and 15 inches in depth. Approximate dimensions are furnished as guide only. Each shipping container shall be closed in accordance with ASTM D1974, Section 6, Methods of Box Closure, para 6.2, Closure Methods for Regular Slotted Containers.
4.3 Palletization. When specified (see 5.2) plumb bob cord, packed as specified, shall be palletized on a 4-way entry pallet in accordance with load type 1a of MIL-HDBK-774. Each prepared load shall be bonded by means C and D, or F and C, and pallet pattern shall be number 4 in accordance with MIL-HDBK-74.
4.4 Marking. In addition to any special marking required by the contract or purchase order, unit packs, shipping containers, and palletized unit loads shall be marked in accordance with MIL-STD-129.
