3. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS.
3.1 Design and construction. With the exception of type VII using an aramid fiber core (kern), all other types (see section 2) kernmantle ropes shall be constructed with a nylon core (kern) and a braided outer nylon or polyester sheath (mantle). All ends of the kernmantle ropes shall be cut with a hot knife and taped to prevent fraying. Unless otherwise specified, the mantle color for type I thru type V shall be green; color for type VI shall be black and color for type VII shall be blue.
3.2 Physical properties. The finish rope shall conform to the specified type and tests per standard as specified in classification (see section 2).
3.3 Dynamic water absorption (Type IV and V only). Type IV and V kernmantle ropes shall be water repellent treated to resist water penetration into the rope. When tested per paragraph 5.3, the maximum average dynamic absorption shall be 26.5 percent.
3.4 Identification. Each kernmantle rope shall have a ticket (identification tag) attached for identification purposes. The ticket shall conform to the requirements for A-A-59622. The ticket shall be legibly printed, strapped, or typed with water insoluble ink. The ticket shall contain the following information:
National Stock Number Nomenclature Document number
Type
Contract number and date
Name of manufacturer
Date of manufacture and year
4. REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS. The offeror/contractor is encouraged to use recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable, in accordance with paragraph 23.403 of the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR).

e. Spotty or uneven dyeing.
f. Any spot or stain clearly noticeable.
